Continuing the Legends motto of constant innovation, ULTRA RED™ is an all-new dyed red paper for playing cards. This is the follow-up to the ULTRA BLACK™ stock seen on this Stratosphere deck.
The edges of this deck are not white or light grey, like you have seen on nearly every deck of playing cards up to this point. They are SOLID RED! Unlike red gilding or spraying each deck's edges with black paint, which will chip and fade, ULTRA RED™ does not chip, and the deck will look and feel new for much longer. We wish we could have printed with this technology on the game-changing Ellusionist Black Tigers all those years ago!
We use an ultra-thin mylar, or full foil, and laminate it to the red core paper before they are printed on or cut (we can produce these decks in other solid colors as well). This forms a strong bond to the paper, making them water resistant. Because solid red paper is difficult to print on and inks will be absorbed into the paper, the full foil layer allows for a smooth, nearly opaque, and reliable substrate to print the artwork (which in this case is also mostly red, but can be any color). Blank parts in the artwork are where you can see the shiny effect of the full-foil under the printed inks.
Through your support in purchasing previous decks with this technology, we have experimented and improved the warping and creasing which were evident in the Stratosphere deck. The cards will handle even better, and the fans are stunning with this artwork from Randy Butterfield @MidnightCards
The cards feel soft and supple, handling well for general use and flourishing. They are slightly lighter in weight, and thicker than a Classic Finish / Bic
