Our spring latches are specifically designed to fit perfectly on our Savvy Feeders ™. They are lightweight and will never rust. They are incredibly safe because we designed them to bend and not break! We started out with steel latches, but quickly realized that a horse with shoes could paw at the latch and break it off, leaving a sharp edge that could damage an eye. So we designed this latch out of a specific type of aluminum that will bend and not break off. If your horse happens to bend the spring latch and you can't open the feeder, just tap the mounting bracket into place with a hammer and you're back in business! While this can be frustrating and take a few minutes of your time, safety is always our #1 priority. Once in awhile, there will be that trickster in the herd that can really bend the spring latch to the point of needing to cut it off and replace it. For this reason, we offer them for sale. Plus we like to use them for gates and doors around the farm. :)
